Care for Creation Takes A More Literal Sense In The Campus

Featured

Blog Post by Daniel Joshua D. Magpoc, Grade 11 – Marx (HuMSS)

Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Bataan, a Catholic and Dominican institution, is built upon the solid and all natural foundations of the plateau of the Dominican Avenue. This provided the campus with more than enough space to be utilized for the construction of various architectures. A lot of students may ask “Bakit nasa bundok yung Letran?”, this is a really common question that is asked not only by students, but also parents, visitors, and even the teachers! We believe that this has something to do with nature.

Nature! (I know, off-topic right?) It’s one of the most prominent highlights of the Colegio! If you like being surrounded by trees, dominated by the fresh air, listening to the breeze as the birds chirp and sing in the distance, then this is definitely the campus of your dreams! (Also, we have cows. Like… big, fat, and cute cows wandering around the fields while you head out to have lunch).

Jokes about nature aside, the Dominican administrators of the Colegio chose this place for personal reasons. As stated in the Vision of Letran-Bataan which exhibits the “care for creation and the quality of life” (somewhere along those lines), Letran wishes to urge its students into appreciating the beauty of nature and to take care of their natural surroundings. These would include the flora and the fauna of the nearby forests becoming the responsibility of the students themselves. Who knew that best place to witness how the Vision is carried out firsthand is in the campus itself?

This should not only apply to the students of Letran-Bataan, but to others as well who are nearby natural resources. Care for the creations of God, do not abuse and take advantage of the environment as it is what keeps our life quality in a heightened degree!

Letran-Bataan Math and Science Week: Museums and Fun!

Blog Post by Jasmine Drika D. Lievaart, Grade 11 – Marx (HRS)

The Colegio de San Juan de Letran Bataan celebrated their Math and Science Week last September 29, 2018. Students from Math and Science Club created the Math and Science Museum in preparation for the event. The event lasted for the whole day. Members from Math and Science Club were assigned to be the officers in charge. Just like me, I’m from the Math Wizard Club and I was assigned to be the Photographer for the Math Event Activities.

The first activity for the students in the morning was to visit the museums after that is the Math Trail and Science Quiz Bee. Each section had their own representatives for the activities. In the afternoon, the completion was the MathSci Jingle. Many students enjoyed watching this. Students were cheering for their section while they watch them dance and sing. The judges also liked the performance of each competitors. After the MathSci Jingle was the awarding. Some students were very happy and celebrated because of the results and some were sad and said they’ll do better next time.

My experience in this event is that it is enjoying but tiring. I enjoyed seeing the people enjoyed the activities that we set for them and also enjoyed seeing my classmates dance and sing. It is tiring because I am the one who is capturing photos in the event. I have to follow the students in the math trail that means I also need to run. I learned some things on this event like why is math and science important to our daily lives and what does it contribute.

While on the way to Manaoag, Pangasinan, the passengers pray the Holy Rosary while traveling from Bataan to Pangasinan. When we arrived at Pangasinan we ate breakfast after the travel time of three hours. Here are the places that we visit at Manaoag, Pangasinan:

  • Our Lady of Manaoag Church, Pangasinan
  • Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Manaoag

We created the model of the rosary. We, as the parts of the rosary beads. And of course, we prayed the Holy Rosary. After making the rosary model, some of the students perform a dance for Maria. After that the students take their lunch and then they go to the Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Manaoag to visit the school and to visit their fellow students as well. After that the Letran-Bataan team was given a chance to buy souvenirs, foods, and many other stuffs before leaving Manaoag, Pangasinan.

Letran-Bataan: School Spirit On Its Highest Level!

Blog Post by Ann Jenireene D. Gomez, Grade 11 – Marx (HuMSS)

Many people say that school spirit is associated with togetherness, or in other words, a sense of community. Colegio de San Juan de Letran offers high quality education for the students and continues to build a strong relationship with everyone within the community as time goes by. Each year, the school administers cultural events such as Binyag Arriba where in the students, most specifically the transferees are being introduced with the school’s history, facilities, policies and the other related factors every new student should know in their school. Letran makes sure that students feel comfortable and are more open with their opinions. The school administration also manages the school itself for the strengthening and nurturing of the school spirit that moves within the community.

When I first transferred in Letran, I have already felt the school spirit within me ever since the first day of school. I felt very welcomed and respected by the people and the sense of belongingness is something that made me feel comfortable with my new school not just because of how the school administration make me feel that way but also with how the students show their love and loyalty for the school.

The Facilities

As a transferee, the facilities that Letran has is something I can be proud of and show off to everyone. I cannot say that it has the best facilities among all the Colegios in the country but these are definitely the facilities that are being maximized and used by students to further improve their education.

The Students

Approachable. Friendly. Respectful. Dedicated.  These are just some of the traits that I love with the students of Letran. They are fun to be with and you can really be your true self when you are with them because they will never fail to make you feel appreciated and respected in the community. In line with this, the school spirit in Letran makes the students closer to each other which in turn make their relationship with others stronger.

The School Administration

The school administration never fails to properly manage the whole Colegio towards a stronger and more nurtured stratum of the school. The dedication from them is overwhelming and you can really see the effort they put in to build a more improved Colegio.

Not just the students, the facilities, and the school administration make up the school but these are some of the greatest factors that contribute to the organization of the school. There are also cultural events that greatly help in the promotion of school spirit in Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Bataan. When you enter the school, you can really feel that you belong in there and you will feel more proud of your own school. And as it goes through the years, Letran still keeps moving forward with that fiery spirit and the words: Siempre Arriba, Siempre Letran (Always Arriba, Always Letran)!

After the earthquake drill, the students prepared their fabulous museums and the visitors visited each museums. The visitors enjoyed every museum and they learned about each country, like our museum which is Peru, we just prepared all of the materials, we designed our room through the walls by designing using construction paper and we designed the television and flowers using crepe paper. We also used crepe paper to design “banderitas” for the ceiling. We also have trivias and information about Peru, when the visitors came to our museum, they watched the information video about our country. In the afternoon, the Mr and Ms United Nations was held at the Gymbahan Court of Letran Bataan,we supported our grade 11 candidates representatives by the sections Drucker and Saturn.

One of the officers of the Socsciety club was in-charged by the girls and boys candidates of Mr and Ms United Nations. The candidates danced their unity dance and their supporters was screaming to support them, Ms. India was grabbed 2 awards, namely Best in Advocacy and Ms. Ambassadress. The other candidates also won an awards like Mr and Ms. Ambassadress,Best in Advocacy, and of course the grand winner. That event is for the students because they will learn about the history and different countries, the program in the morning is very successful because there was the unity dance, the fabulous and artistic museums. We enjoyed a lot to the activities because there was a unity dance, museums, Mr and Ms. United Nations.

After the event, the Socsciety officers and members was super happy because of their event and the success of it. The president of that club thanked everyone that all of them attended the said event which is United Nations entitled “Right to Peace – Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. The people enjoyed watching the Mr and Ms United Nations because all of them are laughing and enjoying the program. The Mr and Ms. United Nations 2018 which is the Grade 12 representing Egypt who won the audience impact, they all deserve that winning category because their costumes is so nice and beautiful. The Grade 12 has the most received which is the audience impact. It’s okay if our representatives in grade 11 are in the winning place, but it’s important that they have an award like Ms.India and Ms.Philippines.
